URGENT: BAIL NEEDED!!
(photo from front page of La Opinion, 11/29/11)
Tuesday night,
as you undoubtedly saw, in person or on the news, the largest
encampment of the Occupy movement was shut down. 300 courageous
protesters, including several Revolution Books staff and supporters,
were surrounded and arrested by a massive force of 1,400 riot police,
armed with sonic weapons, bean bag guns, and more. Many other people
stood in solidarity at City Hall, while still more were blocked by
police from joining the defense of Occupy L.A. Clearly, this national
movement has stung the powers-that-be who find it unacceptable for
people to begin to live a new collective ethos and to resist the horrors
of today's world.
The
arrestees have been denied release on their own recognizance, and are
being held on $5,000 bail each, for a misdemeanor charge. This punitive
charge is meant to prevent continued resistance to the attack and to
try to cripple the movement financially. Donate generously to bail out our volunteer staff and supporters so they can immediately continue their work. As quoted in the Nov. 29th LA Times editorial, "At the Revolution Books table, Nicole Lee explained, 'It's a protracted struggle.'"
WE NEED OUR STAFF & ALL THOSE BEING HELD FREED AND BACK ON THE STREETS WHEREEVER
THE OCCUPATION RESIDES!!
